Bechet Owens was born and raised Concord New Hampshire. Her mother, Sheryl was an accountant and her father Thomas was a podiatrist. The only child for the couple, the three lived a relatively quiet life in suburbia until her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Due to wanting to be close to her mother in case she took a turn for the worse, Bechet’s mother relocated to New York to be by her side. With family support, Bechet and her father later joined the two in the city. Where at looked as if her health would improve with treatment, a sudden change in her health went on the decline. It wasn’t for long had Eleanor Asher passed, losing the battle with cancer before she could really put up a good fight. Where her parents returned to New Hampshire, Bechet stayed in New York to attend CUNY. After completing her degree in journalism, she began to work for The Villager where she churned out articles here and there on any assignment given. It wasn’t much but it gave her enough experience to obtain another position for a slot at LA Weekly. Once again she relocated, this time moving to California to take the job. Though it is still not an article large enough for her liking, she’s finally getting something to work on that she was interested in. At 24 she is working for the type of paper she wanted to be a part of and a newlywed. Happily married to the man she described as the first person she truly loved, Bechet is finally in a really good place in her life.
